Palo Alto Networks now offers Extended Expertise -- the next evolution of our Resident Engineer Service. Extended Expertise is an easy, new, flexible way to engage personalized technical expertise exactly where and when you need it.

Your team can successfully ramp up, deploy and optimize the Palo Alto Networks security portfolio by accessing the technical expertise you need to secure your enterprise.

## Pace of Change Contributes to Cybersecurity Expertise Gap

The challenges for security teams can be broad and complex. The speed of technological advancements in cybersecurity is rapid. You need resources to combat evolving cyberthreats and to keep pace with evolving technological changes.

Presently, there is a cyber skills shortage. The (ISC)^2^ 2020 Cybersecurity Workforce Study estimates there is a [shortage of 3.1 million cyber workers worldwide](https://www.isc2.org/Research/Workforce-Study#). Finding the right cybersecurity talent can be competitive, challenging, and time-consuming. Qualified expert consultants are very often used to augment and support an organization's security strategy. We want to help customers and make it easier to access cybersecurity expertise to maximize security.

## Extended Expertise Is the Next Evolution of Our Resident Engineer Service

Our Resident Engineer service is designed to provide a long term (12 month+) consulting resource for customers who need a product expert to help implement and operate their firewall, endpoint or cloud technology. Extended Expertise now makes these services more flexible, personalized and accessible than ever before.

Extended Expertise offers several tiers of services:

* **Full-time or Half-time Consultant:** A consultant will be dedicated to your organization full-time (for a minimum of 12 months), or designated to your organization half-time (for a minimum of 12 months).

* **Remote or Onsite Consultant:** Select from an onsite or remote consultant. Onsite availability is subject to COVID-19 restrictions in your region and is for the full-time consultant option only.

* **Choice of Core Specializations:** To match your desired area of focus, select your consultant's area of expertise from eight core specializations:
  
  * NGFW/Prisma Access.
  * VM-Series Private Cloud.
  * CloudGenix -- Prisma Access and CloudGenix SD-WAN.
  * Prisma Cloud.
  * VM-Series Public Cloud.
  * Cortex XSOAR.
  * Cortex XDR.
  * Security Operations.

* **Professional Services Credits:** Professional Services Credits are being launched as part of Extended Expertise. Use these credits during the engagement period on [supplemental professional services](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/blog/2020/04/network-quickstart-services/) outside the core specialization.

We believe this service provides you with the ultimate flexibility. For example, our multi-product customers can engage multiple Extended Expertise Consultants for larger deployments and choose a mix of full or half-time options to deploy multiple technologies. Alternatively, a customer with a smaller deployment may only need a Designated or half-time Extended Expertise Consultant bundled with Professional Services credits.

In addition to correct implementation and configuration, successful security deployment typically requires customization of policies, playbooks and application signatures. This can divert resources from other projects and requires the right staff to be on hand and in the relevant geography. The Extended Expertise service will help solve this challenge and augment your security resources where you need it most.
