仕事後の時間が増えて、子供たちと一緒にパズルをやる時間ができました

開催間近となったTOKYO 2020 を1つの契機に議論が始まったにもかかわらず、長引く新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）による行動制限などの影響から、テレワークの議論の中では働き方改革は話題にならなくなりました。さらにテレワークの話題は、緊急事態宣言中、TOKYO 2020 の期間中の徹底といったものに限定されています。パロアルトネットワークスでは、緊急事態宣言や大規模イベントの有無に関わらず、「[FLEXWORK](https://blog.paloaltonetworks.com/2021/01/flexwork-commitment-in-japan/?lang=ja)」による在宅勤務を行っています。

私は、インサイドセールスというチームに所属し、特にこれまでパロアルトネットワークスと接点がなかった企業のお客様を中心に、コンタクト作り、橋渡し役を担当しています。自分が担当するお客様に対して、連日メールや電話でコンタクトを取り、お客様の取り組みや関心事に応じて担当営業に繋げる業務が中心です。本来電話とメールさえあれば成り立つ仕事ではありますが、パロアルトネットワークス入社前は、オフィスに行くのが当然、就業時間は固定という条件がありました。小さい子供を持つ母親としては、実に様々な悩みや苦労がありました。

朝には子供の食事や準備を済ませて保育園に送り届けなければならず、始業時間までにオフィスに行くこと自体が大変でした。決まった時間までに電車に乗らないと、始業にもお迎えにも間に合わないので、駅のホームまで走ることも当たり前でした。時間的にも精神的にも余裕がない送迎は、悪天候でさらに大変なものになりました。パロアルトネットワークスに入社したことで、朝夕それぞれ時間に余裕ができ、何より精神的にも余裕が生まれ、天候などの状況に応じて柔軟に送迎ができるようになりました。通勤の必要がないため、この余裕は家族との時間にも変わり、ジョギングや玩具遊び、オンライン英会話をしたりと、子供と共有できる時間が一層増えました。

小さい子供を持つ母親にとっては、毎日が予期せぬことの連続です。以前は、子供が体調を崩せば、会社を休む必要がありました。休めば休んだ分だけ仕事が溜まる悪循環もあり、休めない場合には親のサポートが必要でした。それでも、親が自宅に来てからでないと出勤できないので、オフィスに着く前から疲弊状態でした。私の周りには、子供の面倒を見てもらうために、親に飛行機で来てもらったという友人もいました。就業時間が決められ、オフィスでしか作業ができないことが原因でした。パロアルトネットワークス入社後は、家庭の事情に合った時間の使い方ができるようになり、家庭と仕事のバランスがとりやすくなりました。

オフィスに通っていた時は、月1回の飲み会やランチが同僚や友人との交流の場になっていました。直接会って会話できる喜びに勝るものはありませんが、ランチは移動時間や場所を含めて1時間以内で調整する必要があり、飲み会は家族の食事を準備したり夫に依頼したりと事前の準備は大変でした。ウェブ会議でのランチや飲み会は、場所の制約なく気軽にできるうえ、家族が乱入することで逆に会話も弾み、結果的に同僚や友人との心の距離が縮まった気がします。

インサイドセールスの仕事自体は、電話やメールでのコミュニケーションが中心のため、在宅勤務でもほとんど変化はありません。これまでインサイドセールスは商談に参加することはありませんでしたが、ウェブ会議中心になったことで、場合によっては商談に参加することが可能になり、お客様の声をより深く聞けるようになったのは業務上のメリットです。オフィス勤務時は、チームメンバーが決まったエリアに固まっていて気軽に話せる雰囲気がありましたが、在宅勤務の中ではチャットツールで気軽に連絡を取り合ったり、情報交換会を毎週開催したりといった形でコミュニケーションも円滑にできています。

いまの日本では、パンデミックを乗り越えるため、TOKYO 2020 開催期間の人流削減のためにテレワークが議論されていますが、本来、労働人口が確実に減ることが見込まれる中で、多様化するライフスタイルを企業と社会がどう受け入れるかが議論のポイントだったはずです。来年には上の子供が小学校に入学するので、また未知の世界に突入しますが、その不安は会社の姿勢とFLEXWORKが一蹴してくれました。どのサッカーチームに入ろうかと悩んでいる最中ですが、在宅勤務で送迎が容易にできるので、チームの選択肢が広がり嬉しい悩みになっています。もっとテレワークが普及することで、多くの人たちが家族との時間を充実させ、より良い社会につながっていくことを期待しています。  
パロアルトネットワークスでは、新型コロナウイルス感染症の世界的な蔓延を受けて、勤務地を会社ではなく社員が決めるという発想のもと、新しいプログラム「FLEXWORK」が始まりました。当社では、社員全員に定期的なアンケートを実施して、各自の意向をヒアリングすると同時に、社員が不安なく最も快適かつ生産性高く働けるよう支援を続けています。
