On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, Gartner published their inaugural [2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Security Service Edge (SSE)](https://start.paloaltonetworks.com/gartner-sse-mq-2022?utm_source=internal-blog-global-sase&utm_medium=organic) report, recognizing Palo Alto Networks as a Challenger in their evaluation. This report evaluates SSE offerings solutions designed to secure access to the web, cloud services and private applications.

SSE represents one-half of the tools and technologies that Gartner categorizes as Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). Gartner^1^ defines [SASE](https://start.paloaltonetworks.com/gartner-report-roadmap-for-sase-convergence.html)as the convergence of network and security as service capabilities, such as [SD-WAN](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/sase/sd-wan), secure web gateway ([SWG](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/sase/secure-web-gateway)), cloud access security broker ([CASB](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/sase/next-gen-casb)), NGFW and Zero Trust network access ([ZTNA](https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/sase/ztna)).
